Assamese renowned singer Zubin Garg is no more. He lost his life at the age of just 52. He breathed his last early Friday morning in a private hospital in Singapore. The untimely death of this popular singer from Northeast India has deeply saddened the music world.

According to sources, Zubin had gone to Singapore a few days ago to attend the North East Festival. He was supposed to go on stage on Thursday. But an accident happened before he could perform. It is learnt that he had a sudden accident while paragliding as a hobby. He fell into the middle of the sea and remained unconscious for a long time. Later, the Singapore police rescued him and rushed him to the hospital. After being treated in the ICU for several hours, the artist finally succumbed to death.

Music since childhood

Zubin was born in 1972 in Tura, Meghalaya. His passion for music developed from a very young age. He started learning his first song from his mother at the age of three. Later, he gradually tried his hand at classical music and musical instruments. He started his professional music career in 1992. He first gained popularity by singing in the film Ahamiya. Later, he became an all-India artist by singing in Bengali and Hindi films.

His pairing with music director Jeet Gangopadhyay in Bengali films is particularly appreciated. Songs like ‘Man Mane Na’ and ‘Piya Re’ are still in the hearts of the audience. In Bollywood, he reached another height with the help of music director Pritam. The song ‘Ya Ali’ from the 2006 film Gangster brought him national fame overnight. The song was a hit not only at the box office, but also across India.

Despite his outstanding talent in music, there were many controversies surrounding Zubin’s personal life. Sometimes he made headlines for performing while intoxicated on stage, sometimes for his frank comments. Many thought that his restless and uncontrolled lifestyle had repeatedly landed him in trouble. Yet, the power of his songs, the uniqueness of his voice and his emotional performances have always distinguished him.

Zubin Garg created a huge fan base not only in Assam but also across the country. Starting from Ahamiya songs, he has left his mark in every genre of Bengali and Bollywood music. His death has left the artist community, colleagues and fans stunned. Many expressed their grief on social media and wrote, “An era has ended.”

Assam and the Indian music world have lost a talented artist with his untimely demise. However, the countless songs sung in his voice will remain immortal in the minds of the listeners even in the days to come.
