Artificial intelligence AI is no longer limited to technology, it is bringing real changes in people’s lives. Some use AI to get writing or work advice, while others try some unexpected things out of curiosity. One such exceptional incident was witnessed by a Virginia woman—who used ChatGPT to pick lottery numbers and won a prize of about $150,000 worth 1.3 crore rupees. But surprisingly, she didn’t keep the money for herself, but donated it to three charities.
The woman named Carrie Edwards asked ChatGPT for help in picking numbers for the September 8 Powerball lottery. She asked the AI in a funny way, “Do you have any lucky numbers for me?” And surprisingly, those numbers became the key to her luck.
The draw results showed that four numbers on her ticket matched the Powerball ChatGPT-suggested numbers. Because she chose the additional ”Power Play” option, her $50,000 prize tripled to $150,000—worth about Rs. 1.32 crore in Indian currency.

While most lottery winners think of a new house, car or luxurious lifestyle, Edwards chose a different path. She announced that she would donate the entire amount to three organizations that are deeply connected to her personal life.
- Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration FTD: This organization funds research related to her late husband’s disease.
- Shalom Farms: A non-profit organization working on sustainable agriculture and food justice programs to address food insecurity.
- Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: An organization that provides support to members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps and their families.
Edwards described the win as a “gift from God.” “This money is not just about making a difference in my life, it’s about making a difference in the lives of others, that’s my greatest achievement,” he said.
This incident proves that while technology can bring unexpected joy, a person’s human decisions can make it even more unique. The number provided by ChatGPT may have opened the door to his fortune, but it was his decision to donate his entire prize to the good of society that made him truly exceptional.
