Indian women’s team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana produced a brilliant batting storm in the second ODI against Australia in Mullanpur on Wednesday (September 17). The 29-year-old opener brought up her 12th ODI century of her career off just 76 balls, which is the second fastest women’s century in India’s history.

With this century, Mandhana also equaled the record for the most centuries by an opener in women’s cricket. Playing a brilliant innings of 117 runs in the 33rd over of the innings, she was dismissed by Tahlia McGrath, caught by Ashley Gardener.

The personal milestone created an emotional moment on social media. Mandhana’s boyfriend, singer Palash Muchhal, shared a post on Instagram celebrating her century and praising her achievement on the special day.

Australia fielded first after winning the toss. But their decision backfired from the start. Mandhana and Pratik Rawal took the team’s score to 70 in less than 15 overs. Although Rawal departed for 25, Mandhana’s batting innings provided a big foundation.

Meanwhile, middle-order batsman Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the entire series due to a virus. Tejal Hasabnis has been named in her place.

The final match of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday (September 20). If India wins, it will whitewash Australia 3-0.

At the time of this report, India’s total was 247/6 in the 43rd over.
