There has been a new development in the mysterious death case of popular Assamese singer Zubin Garg. The investigation has named two more close associates – bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritaprab Mahant. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police arrested these two on Thursday. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to four.

According to investigation sources, singer Zubin Garg, Goswami and Mahant were present together at a yacht party held on September 19 on the occasion of the North East India Festival. The tragic incident took place at that party, the 52-year-old artist went missing while swimming and was recovered floating face down in the water within a short time.

SIT sources also said that the video footage of the incident showed Goswami swimming very close to Zubin, while Mahant was recording the entire incident on his mobile phone. Both of them were being questioned intensively for the past six days.

On Friday, the Assam Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court ordered the two to be sent to 14-day CID custody.

Earlier on Wednesday, Zubin’s manager Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival manager Shyamkanu Mahant were also arrested by the police. It is believed that the four will be questioned together so that the real picture of the incident is clear.

SIT chief Munna Gupta, who is currently leading the investigation, said,

“The investigation is ongoing. We cannot reveal all the details right now, but we have added the murder link. We are working fast to uncover the truth.”

On the other hand, the singer’s wife Garima Garg expressed confidence in the investigation and said, “I have full faith that the law will take its course and we will get justice. The investigators are doing their job, so it would not be right to comment now. We will soon know what really happened that day and who is guilty.”

Gupta also said that some important evidence collected in Singapore can help their investigation. That is why the SIT team is waiting for permission to go there.

“We are ready to go to Singapore. We will leave as soon as the necessary documents are completed,” he said.

As the investigation progresses, the mystery in this case is increasing. The entire country is now looking for one answer – was Zubin Garg’s untimely death just an accident, or is there a deep conspiracy behind it?
