What is Navaratri?
Navaratri is a nine-night Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine divine forms. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil, devotion over ego, and light over darkness. Each night is celebrated with prayers, fasting, cultural dances like Garba and Dandiya, and chanting of hymns in honor of the Goddess. Navaratri ends with Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra.
What is Dussehra?
Dussehra, also called Vijayadashami, marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana and the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. It’s a celebration of courage, justice, and righteousness. Symbolically, it reminds us to burn our inner evils—anger, greed, arrogance—and embrace truth and virtue. Effigies of Ravana are burnt across India, representing the destruction of negativity.
